Brisbane
  • Exciting New Regulatory Opportunity
  • Strategic, Tactical and Implementation Focus
  • National Responsibility /Brisbane Based

Following the recent historic agreement by all Australian Governments, Australia will have, for the first time, one set of national laws for heavy vehicles and a single National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. The new national regulatory regime will commence on 01 January 2013 replacing eight individual and inconsistent regulatory approaches.

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is committed to making a positive difference for the national heavy vehicle industry. The NHVR will be an independent body, based in Queensland and recognised by all states and territories. The main focus of the organisation will be to enhance the safety and productivity of the heavy vehicle sector by streamlining decision making, reducing red tape and simplifying the regulatory environment for operators, whilst fostering greater safety .

Reporting to a governing Board to be chaired by the Hon Bruce Baird AM, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NHVR will be responsible for the effective overall leadership and strategic management of the Regulator. In addition, the CEO will be accountable for administering the Heavy Vehicle National Law establishing national business systems and procedures, delivering regulatory activities, developing reporting frameworks and national operating procedures as well as establishing industry liaison and consultation in order to implement educational programs and other initiatives. Critically important will be the enhancement of industry safety.

We are seeking an individual with the ability to set a clear future direction for the NHVR and a demonstrated track record in establishing organisational cultures to deliver on objectives. You will possess highly developed communication skills and a proven ability to build productive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will have experience in working with governments across jurisdictional boundaries, a track record of senior management in governance and regulatory environments and a good understanding of the heavy vehicle industry. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior executive to establish and develop this new body and shape the industry.
